On the Winter Solstice

On this, the shortest day of the year
I am grateful for the hours of illumination
I have embraced the light and have been held by the darkness.
Considered the prospect of sleep then renewal
Digging deep, I have still not found the bottom
Looking up I am staggered by the vastness
Sweeping behind me I’m removing the detritus of the past
Looking forward to more available light
